BIP International Staff Week 2026 - The Importance of Soft Skills for Leadership in the Context of the Internationalization of Higher Education

The Faculty of Organizational Sciences, University of Maribor, invites colleagues from its partner universities abroad to participate in the International Staff Week, which will take place in March 2026.

The main theme of this year’s International Staff Week is the importance of soft skills for leadership in the context of the internationalization of higher education. The event aims to foster international cooperation, encourage the exchange of good practices, and facilitate in-depth discussion on contemporary challenges and opportunities faced by higher education institutions in an increasingly international academic environment.

The International Staff Week programme will include lectures, interactive discussions, workshops, and project-based activities, with a focus on the development of key soft skills such as effective communication, leadership, collaboration in an international environment, the use of gamification, and a broader understanding of competences in higher education. Special emphasis will be placed on networking, building connections among participants, and sharing experiences and best practices from diverse institutional and cultural backgrounds.

The International Staff Week is intended for university staff involved in internationalization, leadership, teaching, and administrative or professional roles, as well as for those with a professional interest in the covered topics. The event offers participants an opportunity to acquire new knowledge, develop their competences, and establish or strengthen international professional networks.

Participants are encouraged to contribute to the International Staff Week with a presentation related to the theme of the event or the outcomes of the joint project work. Participation with a presentation is not a mandatory requirement for attendance, but it is highly encouraged.

You will find the preliminary programme of the International Staff Week FOV 2026 here.

Kranj

For thousands of years the town of Kranj has enjoyed its strategic position. Located between two rivers on a conglomerate rock beneath the Alps, it has always been a lively centre where diverse ethnic groups would meet and later also people of various nations from all over the world. These encounters have influenced the architecture, the transport links and the temperament of Kranj.

Portorož

Portorož is well known as a party town, where you can have fun by the sea. However, this Slovenian coastal splendour has more than meets the eye.

Portorož has been known as the place of healing since the 13th century when the monks from the St. Laurence Monastery first used the sea water and brine for healing purposes. Ever since Portorož was home to many healing and wellness complexes, which to this day, use the healing properties of salt and the sea.
